There is no universal winner: compare the completed truck for the job. Isuzu N Series, Hino 300 Series and Fuso Canter all cover urban delivery, trade, tipper, pantech and service-body work, including selected car-licence pathways.

“Car licence” describes the registered/rated vehicle limit, not its useful payload. A heavier cab, crew cab, automatic transmission, long body, tail lift or tool fit-out can materially reduce the load available under 4.5 tonnes.

Hino lists selected 616 and 716 variants with car/LR pathways, including hybrid choices. The maximum engineering GVM and the GVM at which the truck is registered must not be confused.
Fuso lists Canter 515 City and Wide Cab at 4,495kg GVM and 7,995kg GCM, with 110kW and 400Nm. Body and wheelbase selection determine whether its finished payload suits the job.

Brand-level safety claims are not enough. Check whether the quoted truck includes autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, stability control, airbags, reversing camera and blind-side monitoring where relevant. Cab, model year and body integration can affect availability and performance.
The 2024 NHVR-commissioned ANCAP light-truck comparison tested selected Isuzu N Series, Hino 300 and Fuso Canter variants in the 3,500–4,500kg and 4,501–8,000kg bands. Use the report as comparative evidence, then verify the production specification of the truck being ordered.
Put cab, wheelbase, transmission, body, accessories, fuel, occupants and payload into the same worksheet.
Payload can fit under total GVM and still overload an axle. Ask for a body-builder weight distribution calculation.
Compare the workshop that will maintain the truck, not just the dealer making the sale.
Include fuel or energy, AdBlue, tyres, service, finance, downtime, insurance and expected resale.
