Your First PHEV Ute: 10 Questions for Delivery Day
The handover is the moment to turn a promising specification into a vehicle you can use confidently. A good demonstration of charging, modes and equipment helps you enjoy a PHEV from the first week. For Hunter buyers, the checklist below also keeps the delivered Pro or X aligned with the written order.
Before the appointment
Ask the dealer to allow time for a charging demonstration and a review of the fitted accessories. Bring the agreed order, accessory list and any questions from the test drive. If more than one person will drive or charge the vehicle, involve them in the explanation where possible.
A checklist is not a reason to expect a problem; it makes the first week simpler. You want to leave knowing how to connect, drive and care for the ute, and which support contact to use when a question arises.
Ten questions to ask
| Question | What to see or record |
|---|---|
| 1. Is this the exact vehicle and grade I ordered? | Match the VIN, grade, colour, options and fitted accessories with the paperwork. |
| 2. What charging equipment is included? | Identify each cable, connector and any portable EVSE; record anything still to be supplied. |
| 3. Can you demonstrate charging and unplugging? | See the port release, connection, status display, lock and safe disconnection sequence. |
| 4. How do the power modes work? | Have the dealer explain selection, expected engine operation and relevant settings. |
| 5. How do I set the charging routine? | Check any supported schedules and which settings belong to the vehicle or charging equipment. |
| 6. What does my V2L setup require? | Confirm the approved adapter, whether it is included, output limits and battery cut-off behaviour. |
| 7. What towing and load limits apply to this configuration? | Identify the relevant vehicle, towbar and accessory documents; check fitted weights. |
| 8. What maintenance is due first? | Record the first service date or distance, ongoing schedule and booking contact. |
| 9. What are the warranty and assistance terms? | Get the written vehicle, battery and accessory coverage, exclusions and contact details. |
| 10. What remains to be completed? | List missing equipment or follow-up work, the responsible contact and agreed timing. |
The Hunter-specific checks
Confirm the Pro/X equipment differences against the actual order. In particular, do not infer that a showroom vehicle’s differential locks, camera system or optional sunroof are included in your selected grade. If an option is part of your order, ask the dealer to point it out and explain it.
For charging, distinguish the connection cable from the device that controls charging from a household outlet. For V2L, confirm the exact supported setup rather than assuming a generic adapter is suitable. Hunter’s useful plug-in and mobile-power features are much easier to appreciate when the handover includes a practical demonstration.
Set up a simple first-week record
Make a note of the delivery odometer and battery level, then keep receipts and charging readings. Check that both keys and any supplied manuals or documents are present. Set basic preferences while parked, pair your own device if you want to use phone integration, and ensure every regular driver knows the essential controls.
Use the first week to learn normal behaviour rather than chasing the lowest displayed fuel number. Your route, load and charging pattern will shape the result. The diesel-to-PHEV first-week guide gives a straightforward plan.
Leave with a vehicle you understand
Keep a copy of the signed equipment list and demonstration notes. Any missing accessory or unresolved operating question should have a named contact and agreed follow-up. The checklist works for any PHEV ute; the grade-specific checks above cover Hunter Pro and X.
If a feature or document is unclear, have it explained and recorded. Keep a copy of the completed checklist with the order. It will be more useful later than relying on memory of a busy delivery appointment.
